Chapter 2
~The Secret Of Pegasus~


It was Morning and the sun was shining right through the curtains in Rini’s room. She moaned when the sunlight hit her face and she rolled to the other side of the bed, putting her back against the sun. Then she heard a knock at her door.

   “Come in!” She shouted. Serena opened the door with a tray of Oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and tea. As Serena walked toward her bed, she smiled and placed the tray in front of Rini.
    “I made you breakfast!” Serena told her happily as she opened the curtains, letting the bright sun shine through the whole room. Rini looked confused.
    “Serena, why are you doing all of this for me? You usually say ‘go get your own breakfast’ or ‘get lost’!” Rini exclaimed.
    “I guess I just changed over the night!” Serena said with a wink as she sat on Rini’s bed, watching her chow-down on her food.
    “Rini, what did you dream about last night?” Serena asked curiously. “Um...well...” Rini was about to start, but she remembered Pegasus saying not to mention anything about him. “Uh...I  honestly don’t want to talk about it to anyone.” She lied. She did want to tell her, but she knew she couldn’t. That would just mean trouble for Pegasus! Serena nodded. “Ok, I understand.” She said, smiling.
   “Tell me this, though... why did you run off last night?” Serena asked, puzzled. So it wasn’t a dream!  Rini thought to herself.
    “I wanted to take a walk and get some fresh air.” She lied again.
    “You could always just open your window....” Serena stated. Rini’s face turned red. “Oops! Hehe, I knew that!” She blushed in embarassment as she was scratching the back of her head. Aw man all these lies are just leading to trouble! I sure hope she doesn’t find out about Pegasus!  Rini thought, looking worried. Serena saw her worried expression. “What’s wrong?” She asked. Boy, she sure does ask a lot of questions. I bet she just likes hearing herself  talk... Rini thought to herself as she giggled a little bit, but not loud enough for Serena to hear. “It’s nothing.” Rini answered. “Okay... well, if you need anything, I’ll be downstairs.” Serena smiled as she took the bereakfast tray with her and left the room.
   Rini sighed in relief that she was gone and didn’t find out about Pegasus. She laid on her bed and stared at the ceiling. Ok, that was too close... She thought to herself and sighed.

   It was once again Midnight and Rini went to her dresser. She brushed her hair and put it in her  little hair ties and put it just the way she always had and liked it. She was trying to look the best she could for Pegasus so she put little jewels on her hair and then walked over to her closet. Rini picked out a beautiful light pink dress with a red tie and trim. When she was satisfied on how she looked, she walked over to Diana who just woke up. “Diana, don’t tell Serena I’m gone. Don’t worry, I’ll be back before the crack of dawn.” Rini promised. Diana nodded and went back to sleep, and Rini quietly walked out the door toward the big hill.
   When she got there, she didn’t see Pegasus yet, so she sat on the soft grass and waited.
   About 5 minutes later, she heard the sound of wings gliding through the sky. Rini stood up and waited for him to land. Once he did, Rini ran to him and hugged him by his neck.
  “Sorry to keep you waiting. I was doing something important...” Pegasus told her. “That’s alright! You could take all the time you needed. I’m very patient!” Rini smiled as she pulled away from the hug and pet his forehead.
  “Well, come sit. I need to talk to you about something important.” He said and she nodded and sat down with him beside her.
  “Rini... I’m cursed. I was really a human before my transformation. See, I was this Queen’s servant. I had no idea she was so cruel and evil. One time, she ordered me to do something that I just couldn’t do because I didn’t want to do it. I refused her command for the first time and she got furious and turned me into this and I was forced to see you, only in this form. I could turn back into a human, but only for about 20 seconds. I would show you my form right now, but it is forbidden until the time is right. I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you this in the first place, but I guess I just didn’t earn your trust at the time. Do you understnd?” He asked. “Yes. I understand everything.” Rini answered. “Ok, good. Don’t tell anybody about though! Not even your other best friends or Serena. Ok?” “Ok.” Rini promised. She rested her head on Pegasus’ neck and he comforted her from the cold once again like the night before.
  “Pegasus... that’s not your real name, is it?  Tell me.. your real name.” Rini told him. “I’m sorry... I just can’t. I’m so sorry...” He told her. “No, it’s ok! I guess you haven’t completely earned my trust yet.” She smiled but Pegasus could see the disappoinntment in her eyes, and he felt guilty for not telling her. But that’s just how life goes. Sometimes people need to keep secrets from eachother.
   “Well... if you can’t show me what you looked like, can you tell me how you looked?” Rini asked. “I’m sorry... but no. I  can’t tell you that either.” He told Rini. “Ok...” She said with more diasappointment in her face. Why won’t he tell me anything?! She wondered. Well, I guess it’s not his fault. I bet he has a reason to not tell me. Rini sighed.
    Rini cuddled up beside him and she turned into a ball again. They rested for about an hour, watching the stars again. When their hour passed, Pegasus let Rini ride on him on the way home. He gently laid her down on her bed, and Rini gave him a little treat. He smiled at her, and watched her go to bed. Time passed, and she was finally asleep.
    Then he flew out the window, back to the Moon Kingdom.
